Miti Museum
A living seed bank at the foot of Mt Kenya.
Miti Museum is a 4.3-acre living tree museum and eco-centre in Naro Moru, Nyeri County — home to more than 180 rare and indigenous tree species, a thriving Miyawaki forest, and a working demonstration of regenerative living.
The museum is a working eco-centre as much as an archive. Visitors can join guided tours, learn to build with cob, camp out for the night in our solar-powered, earth-brick cottage, and take part in hands-on training in regenerative agriculture, water harvesting, beekeeping and composting. We host farmer groups, school tours, corporate wellness days and open training events throughout the year, and we’re working towards a long-term goal of a five-million-seed bank to strengthen Kenya’s climate resilience.
Established in 2020 on the slopes of Mt Kenya, Miti Museum exists to do what a botanical garden and a seed bank rarely do together: protect biodiversity for the long term while opening the door to anyone curious enough to walk through it.
As you wander the grounds you’ll find each of our 180+ tree and plant species labelled with its own story — common name, scientific name, traditional uses and the role it plays in the ecosystem — alongside a dense Miyawaki forest pocket, an indigenous tree nursery, an agroforestry and organic farm, kitchen gardens, a working apiary, rabbit and poultry enclosures, a fish pond, and buildings constructed using traditional cob techniques.
