About Us

Growing Trees. Restoring Biodiversity. Empowering Change.

Miti Global Foundation is a Kenyan-born social enterprise teaching the next generation to plant, grow and protect trees — because a greener Africa starts with the mindset of the people who live in it.

It started with one man attending every tree-planting event he could find. As a young Rotaractor, Michael Waiyaki (also known in early records as Michael Ng’ang’a) found that a single seedling in the ground rarely became a forest — most died within a season, unnoticed and unwatered. What began as personal frustration turned into a calling: if trees were going to survive, someone needed to teach people not just to plant them, but to grow them.

Founded in 2017 and built on the ground in Kiambu and Nyeri counties, Miti Alliance grew that idea into a systematic model. Instead of one-off planting days, we run eco-hubs: tree nurseries, school programmes, kitchen gardens and living tree museums that combine education, food security and biodiversity restoration in one place. Everything we do is designed around Kenyan communities — indigenous species, local knowledge, women and youth leadership, and long-term follow-up care, not just a planting-day photo.

Today, Miti Global Foundation is the name under which this work is presented to the world — connecting Kenyan restoration on the ground with global partners and donors who share the same goal: a world where the balance of nature is restored through the collective effort of informed, empowered individuals.

Miti Alliance Ltd remains the Kenya-registered company running the programmes day to day; see the note above for how these two names relate, and please help us finalise that framing on Monday.
